The Challenge

The problem we were brought in to solve —
for Prospex.

Prospex is a youth charity that has worked in Islington since 2001 — a short walk from our own office in N7 — running youth hubs, skills and careers work, residentials, counselling and holiday programmes for ages 8 to 21.

A charity website is often treated as a simple job. It is not, because it has to serve three audiences who want completely different things and arrive in completely different states of mind: a young person or their parent working out what is on and whether they would feel out of place; a funder looking for evidence rather than adjectives; and someone who wants to volunteer or partner. None of the three can be buried to serve the others.

What We Did

The approach that delivered the result —
for Prospex.

Web DesignWeb DevelopmentDesign SystemAccessibility

Seven bespoke pages on a purpose-built design system, with typography, colour and spacing held as design tokens rather than scattered through page styles. That matters for an organisation that publishes constantly — new sessions, trip write-ups, half-term programmes — because new content inherits the brand automatically instead of needing a designer each time.

The site leads with three calls to action, one for each audience, none subordinated to the others. Accessibility was a starting point rather than an audit at the end: semantic structure, real heading order, keyboard-reachable navigation, and a second accessibility-corrected green used wherever text sits on a coloured background, so the brand palette never forces unreadable contrast. Session sign-ups hand off to Upshot, the platform Prospex staff already use, rather than duplicating a system they depend on.

The redesign was produced with Claude as part of the design and build process. The judgement calls stayed human — which audiences matter, what the charity should sound like, where contrast beats brand. What the AI compressed was the production between those decisions and the finished pages, so options could be compared properly rather than the first workable one being accepted.

Measured on the live site under mobile emulation in November 2026: 89 for performance, 96 for accessibility, and 100 for both best practices and SEO. Total Blocking Time is 0 ms, which is the figure that matters most for the young people reading on an older handset — the page never sits unresponsive while scripts run. These are absolute scores for the site as built, not before-and-after comparisons.
